Embrace Your Emotions With the Emotion Wheel and Mind Mapping

Emotional intelligence isn't just a concept I teach in my coaching practice; it's been a personal journey of growth and discovery. Some time ago, I found myself navigating through a particularly challenging emotional period. I was struggling to understand and manage my feelings, and that's when I discovered the power of combining mind mapping and the emotional wheel.

As I started using these techniques in my own life, I found them incredibly helpful in gaining clarity and insight into my emotions. They not only helped me understand why I was feeling a certain way but also empowered me to take proactive steps to address and manage those feelings effectively.

Getting to Know the Emotional Wheel

The emotional wheel became my guide through the rollercoaster of emotions. It categorizes feelings into primary, secondary, and tertiary categories, making the complex world of emotions a bit more

How To Use This Technique

1. Grab Your Pens and Journal: Start by drawing a box in the center of my journal page with a question like, "How am I feeling today?" or "How am I feeling right now?"

2. Dive into Your Emotions using the Wheel included: Choose a primary emotion your experiencing, write as a branch off the box using one of my colorful pens.

3. Create Your Mind Map : Using a different color, explore triggers, physical sensations, thoughts, and behaviors associated with my primary emotion.

4. Unveil Secondary Emotions: Using another color, uncover any secondary emotions linked to your primary one. These are the emotions that pop up in response to my primary feeling. Use another color to map triggers, thoughts etc associated with this emotion.

5. Discover Tertiary Emotions: Going deeper, explore tertiary emotions, the subtle nuances that give a richer understanding of your feelings. You may or may not have any of these, it is important to explore. Map as you did with the others.

6. Reflect and Analyze: Stepping back to look at my completed mind map, notice the connections between different emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Connect them together using a new pen color.

7. Craft Your Emotional Navigation Plan: Writing down my plan to navigate these emotions, jot down the situation, person, or idea that is causing each emotion, along with brainstorming any specific actions you can take to address or manage them effectively.

8. Summarize Your Plan of Action: After reflecting on my mind map, summarize my plan of action. This highlight key insights and strategies you have identified to navigate and manage my emotions
